Recovering a Sense of Safety and Sensuality:

It is unfortunately very common for women to disconnect from their bodies to varying degrees and for various reasons. This can make it difficult for someone to access their inherent sensual nature. I am here to help you understand what takes you away, and what brings you back home.

My Approach:

I take the approach to healing that our bodies and the physical world are physical manifestations of the divine. This approach is inspired by eastern and yogic philosophy, as well as Jungian psychology: "Enlightenment is when a wave realizes it's the ocean" - Thich Nhat Hahn

My Perspective on Healing:

I believe that healing must take place in a way that recognizes the mind-body connection, and understands the nervous system. Healing must incorporate both a shift in thought patterns as well as developing a feeling of peace and safety in the body and nervous system.

Mind-Body Connection:

Your thoughts, emotions, and physiology are all connected. Did you know that your emotions are experienced on a physiological level? Researchers have found patterns of how universal emotions such as happiness, sadness, fear, anger, and love, are activated in specific parts of the body:

The Nervous System:

Whenever we are stressed, the nervous system activates the fight/flight or freeze response to varying degrees. Depending on the severity and length or the stress we experience, our neuro-pathways can become more defined in a way that makes it easier for us to experience a stress response. The body can unintentionally become addicted to a particular stress-response, which can manifest into chronic symptoms of anxiety, anger, depression, combinations, and other forms of emotional distress. It is critical to train ourselves to access other feelings. Mindfulness strategies that pay attention to the body are crucial in re-learning how to sustainably access enjoyable states of being.

Sensuality: Sensuality is what ultimately regulates the nervous system

Sensuality is defined as the enjoyment of the senses. Although sexuality and sensuality can overlap, they are distinguishable. I do not believe it is possible to use embodied mindfulness practices without sensuality. We cannot only pay attention to our discomfort and expect this to be a sustainable healing modality. This will only cause more stress and emotional dis-regulation. We must learn to associate to what feels good in our bodies: the practice of sensuality. Mindful awareness of what feels good in our bodies is ultimately what regulates our nervous systems, not mindful discomfort.

Sexuality:

Because we unfortunately, at this time, live in a deeply sexually traumatized society, it can be hard to achieve deep embodied healing. The body and sensuality are often associated with sexuality, so it can be incredibly challenging and even triggering for individuals to relax into feeling truly at ease in their bodies when they are so used to their bodies, sensuality, and sexuality being disrespected. The therapeutic relationship should create a sanctuary where all these sacred parts of you are deeply protected and respected.

Mind:

Our thoughts effect our emotions and vice-versa. Recognizing hurtful and unhelpful thoughts and beliefs, and reframing them can help us move forward. 

 

Embodied Healing:

Embodiment practices that incorporate mindfulness, compassion, and sensuality are non-negotiable in sustainably regulating the nervous system long-term. â€‹â€‹â€‹
